Hack Club is a multi-million dollar non-profit. We see tens of thousands of teens interacting with us every year, and I get the privilege to work with some of the coolest, and biggest companies & organizations out there to bring STEM into more young people’s lives.
We couldn’t do it without a well oiled machine. Here’s what we use (or at least my teams use) to keep on top of things.
Slack - whether you love it or hate it, it’s the best out there in my honest opinion for async, global teams. I genuinely struggle to imagine how companies can operate without Slack.
Superhuman - it’s expensive, yes but it’s totally worth it. My personal best for an Inbox Zero streak is 23 weeks. I love how fast & keyboard focused it is, and the AI writing tool is super contextual, and is pretty good at copying my tone!
Jelly - we use this for team inboxes. The avid among you may have noticed our switch from Help Scout to Jelly. With Jelly, we’re not paying $20,000/year anymore - more like $1k. Jelly has a clean, functional UI; and its developer, James, is super awesome!
Basecamp - we use this for tasks & collating documents into projects. Having one platform for all tasks (and tracking your own too!) really lets me see what my teams are working on, and how best to support them.
GitBook - some use Notion for internal docs, we use GitBook. I built a custom authentication proxy for our private docs. GitBook is designed for a team of developers, and it gives us that without a lot of faff.
Airtable & Fillout - the holy trinity of forms & databases. I think it would be amiss not to include everyone’s favourite PostgreSQL database with a fancy UI. I tend to prefer to use real PostgreSQL DBs for production apps, but we do still use Airtable heavily for everything from program management, to HR.
We also use a lot of internal tools that we develop in-house! We’ve built our own banking system, authentication platform, and a plethora of other cool tools that probably could be their own companies.
